MEET DEBBIE

I’m running for District Leader in Assembly District 58 to ensure a strong and working Democratic Party for Brooklyn.

Esther Debbie Louis, known as Debbie for short, is a community leader and a professional strategist whose political career began more than a decade ago with a school project that propelled her to make an impact in the community. She was paired with a local politician, Assemblyman Darryl C. Towns, and interned for one year at his office.

Following in the footsteps of her mother, a 1199SEIU organizer who was on the front lines fighting for healthcare workers’ rights and healthcare for all, Debbie would soon discover her passion and purpose is to help others. ‘Debbie’ is also a proud union member. As a former campus liaison for PSC part-time employees, she has now transitioned as a delegate assembly member and senate faculty member. She is fighting for rights and equality across all CUNY campuses.

Debbie has worked with good government groups like Common Cause to help improve transparency and accountability. Her innovative yet effective approach has secured major victories that would soon transform New York’s political landscape- the advancement of ranked-choice voting and the election of culturally-diverse candidates. She is also a part of NYC’S Language Assistance Advisory Committee (LAAC) where they fight for language access support for voters throughout NYC.

Aside from her impassioned advocacy, Debbie is an entrepreneur, running her business full time,  teaching at YORK College in the behavioral sciences department as an adjunct professor and being an awesome mom to her newborn baby. As an entrepreneur and lifestyle leader, she has utilized her platform to influence people and entrepreneurs on how to discover work-life balance.

Debbie has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in English. She later earned a master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology with a specialization in Leadership.

Given her unique combination of education and expertise, Debbie began teaching courses on leadership, power, and motivation at her alma mater.

Currently, Debbie is a member of the Haitian-American Caucus, All Nations Mission, M &M Angels, a delegate for the PSC union and serves as a junior board member of CAMBA. Her versatility, keen insight, and extensive knowledge of the issues in political discourse have been a tremendous asset to faith-based and nonprofit organizations working to revitalize their communities.
